The new 50 meter pool of will be a real trump for “Het Twentebad”. Not only does it promise to be become only 50m training and competition pool in the region, but it will also provide a home to recreational swimmers and swim schools.
The park landscape of the existing sunbathing area and the experience of outdoor swimming formed the basis of the design. The total concept focusses on creating an optimised top sports location for optimal performance, including the acoustics, climate, sight and logistics.
The new pavilion forms a welcoming volume, centrally placed between the other pools and embedded in the park. Large windows give the users a real sense of being outdoors and the gold, sparkling façade creates a special and varied image. The presence of large openings in the façade ensure that the 50 meter pool can used as part of the outdoor pool landscape during the summer season.
The use of warm materials in both the interior and exterior ensures a friendly building. The playful plinth, visible construction and canopies create a strong connection with its surroundings on a human scale.
The presence of a flexible spectators stands ensures the required infrastructure for organising competitions and other events.
A prefab stainless steel basin will be placed in the existing concrete structure. A hinged bulkhead will be installed so that the pool can also be (partly) uses as 25m. Where possible circular materials have been used, including the wooden structure.
The use of heat pump, solar panels, roof lights with sun trackers, high level insulation of roof, walls and floors, triple glazing, an advanced climate control system and the placement of a drum filter makes the new pool highly sustainable and minimizes the use of energy.
Swimming in optimal conditions with a real sense of being outdoors. A 50 meter pool so transparent that you can watch the sun rise and set while you’re in the water.
