The new indoor swimming pool of Voorthuizen wil be built on the plot of the to be demolished outdoor pool De Heuvelrand. The building is situated in a landscaped lawn surrounded by a forest. Next to the new swimming pool a spraypark with waterplay elements will be built as part of the terrace.
The urban design characterised by the 1,5 meter high plateau where all the functions are situated.
At the north west side the entrance square is positioned with its orientation towards the new road, the south west side has the terrace with spraypark and is orientated towards the sun and the nearby sport fields.
This configuration creates a clear structure whereby the public and private aspects of the plan our clearly separated. Positioning the outdoor spaces to the side of the building has enabled us to maximise the lawn area and give the building a prominent position in the urban design.
The building has been designed as a stone block with contra masses cut out of it. The shape of the cuts have been designed to compliment the function and its orientation. The exterior materialisation is stone with the cuts having a warm anodised aluminium tint.
The interior is bright and neutral with the cuts being accentuated with light wooden panelling. The simple and clear structure of the building enables to building to be overseen by a single employee.
